I love hearing what everyone else is up to in the garden... get to pinch everyone's ideas...
I harvested the last of the tomatoes last week, wow, a heap of them there at the end, they were spending their last few days being ripened in the windowsill in big baskets. I think I have about 12 kilos in the freezer, was just throwing them in whole so will wash them and sauce them up soon. I also made a batch of green tomato pickle with those that were not going to make it to ripe.
My garlic is going great, about 50 out of 70 that we planted on Anzac day are up and away. 40 odd leeks starting to fatten, a few beetroot a couple of weeks away from harvesting, peas climbing up the trellis, and the tomato beds about to get some purple sprouting broccoli, and I might see how same late beetroot go. Spinach, silverbeet, and three colours of carrots seem to be going along OK down the side of the house where they have no chance of frost. Maybe will chuck some Kale in where the second tomato patch was, or maybe green manure.
Oh and I have four bags of potatoes... The ones in the cupboard sprouted, so I mixed up some compost, soil, manure, and old sugar cane mulch, let it mature, then put some in the bottom of four old dynamic lifter bags, rolled the tops down on the bags and put the spuds in, I keep unrolling them and topping them up with the mix so hopefully I will have sacks of potatoes in a couple of months!
As its the first year in the new (old) house, its all a bit of a tester to see what goes well where and when.
