Wool/Yarn

Postby minnie » Wed Sep 07, 2011 12:19 pm

For those that haven't found the Bendigo Mills website: http://www.bendigowoollenmills.com.au if you're looking to buy yarns, it's one of the best and cheapest I've found and all Australian made.

They sell direct from the mill so 200g balls of wool/cotton/100% alpaca etc that I looked at were about $12-$14 for their 200g balls. Considering that less than some 50g balls I've seen it's great.

When I can I'll be buying cotton to crotchet summer tops.

Hi,
I've bought wool from this site. My mum made beautifully soft leggings for my youngest son with it. Excellent value for money, although you need to buy enough to justify the postage. People were so friendly to deal with too.

Hi Heidi,

I've put $60 somethings worth into a shopping basket and it's free postage, so it must be over a certain amount free???

It's not worth for a couple of balls, you'd need to work out what you were going to do and then get at least a ball more, in case you needed it and you'd want the same dye lot. I'm thinking with overs I'll do say tops with a coloured border or stripes etc.

The good thing with crotchet is that all those bits of the same ply - rugs or shawls!!

I've really wanted to do something for DH and I with alpaca as well, and to spin our wool isn't worth it, once we paid for someone to spin etc etc and their price is so good... I've been bitten by the knitting/crotchet bug again, so have trolled about for patterns, wool etc.

I've found the UK and US have some beautiful crotchet clothing, which is really difficult to get patterns for here.

I have used them, a friend was so excited with the wool and prices, I gave her the address and she often orders from them. They will send a catalogue out snail mail for people without internet. really loved the colours and feel of the wools, the sample catalogue is real not just photos of the colours.

Oooh what a great find! Thanks Vicki!

I have my alpaca fleece spun but we only have white and fawn animals. This will be great to get some other colours to add into my stash! :D

Hi Desley,

Yes I was really happy with the yarn I ordered and the card with sample wools!

I've just received patterns I've been waiting on and can now order for those garments while the have the special price before prices go up!

:D
