Newbie from Newcastle area

Postby keanne » Fri Feb 27, 2009 1:02 pm

Hello everyone,

I am near Newcastle NSW at Medowie.

We are renting an acre of ground with a house.

I have a solar oven that I just love to cook with, and have just purchased a Prresto canner cooker and bottles.

Is there anyone else here from the Newcastle area who is experienced in preserving or anything else who would like to get together and share knowledge??

Hi Annie,

Welcome.

Have you done any preserving at all as yet?

I started with an electric Vacola unit, and bottled some tomatoes. It was so simple and gave me the confidence to try more.

I've learnt so much from others on the forum, that someone close to where I live ended up not to matter... I'm sure you'll find everyone here an enormous book of knowledge.

There's a few step by step recipes with photos over on the main site you may like to look at as well.

Look forward to hearing about your journey into preserving.

Hi Annie,

As other have said, welcome to our family on the forum. The step by step photos and instructions are great.
Sorry I can not be of more help in a physical manner though as I live in WA. Like Vicki, when I first started out in preserving I tackled easy projects such as bottling tomatoes and making jam.

Will be happy to talk you through it as they say,

Cheers

Hi and welcome Annie

We all started slowly ,probably with less info then , there is about now --the internet has become the focus for more sustainable lifestylers to learn and pass on info .

Some very good minds to pick from here, and good souls to boot !!

Enjoy your stay

Cheers

Thank you all for you kind welcomes :0)

No I haven't done any preserving as yet ... I am talking myself into taking the plunge though!!

Have been hanging to get the solar oven out but we've had overcast rainy days for nearly two weeks now.

I came across this site that may be of interest to some kitchencookingrecipes.com
