Hello from a new member

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
We live on the coast and have a small 25 acre block in the central west of N.S.W. where we will be living full time in a couple of years. We have a few Dorper sheep, a couple of cows and live in an off grid property serviced by solar panels and a 12 volt battery system.
We love the life having both grown up on the land .
Hope to get many ideas and advice over the years from the forum.

Hi Ozzibeth,
Goodluck with it all. Pretty soon twenty five acres will seem far too small for everything that you want to do! Lots of work though, sometimes I believe hobby farming is harder than doing it full time!

Hi Heidi,
Thanks, I know exactly what you mean. We already want more acres. We have had our place for 8 years already and really struggle big time to fit it all in. My husbands work takes him away a lot and then in the days that we have off we head bush with a list a mile long and never get anywhere near through it. Establishing gardens is the hardest part, we go one step forwards when we get good rain and then two steps back when every thing dries off.
We have a bore and rainwater tanks, but have to be there to pump water with the generator and use battery timers on the tanks, but they are so unreliable.
When we are rich (Lol) we are going to install a solar pump. Our next door neighbour has one and it is wonderful.

Yes, it took us about 9 or 10 years to get our place in order too, although its still a huge work in progress!

Hello & Welcome Ozzibeth, (better late than never)
I have been MIA as my life gets in the way off what I would like to be doing. Twenty five acres hey! I have 5 and at times that is way too much while at other times I wish I had more Not really, 5 is more than enough for our needs and besides we couldn't cope with anymore at our age now.

Good luck with your endevours as you build your hobby farm to its full potential. This will seem to be happening ever so slowly however after 4 years I have been looking at photos of when we started building on ours and it is amazing that what we thought wasn't growing or what we were doing sooo slowly, has in fact been the opposite. The orchard has grown huge and the buildings, gosh we hadn't realized just how much we had done.

I remember when we first started on our new place, I made 3 lists - immediate needs, priority of those immediate needs and a would be nice list. Every day we went out to the property we would work on something then that night or the next day I would cross off the list what we had done. Wasn't always crossed off the priority of course but then sometimes either the weather, circumstances or lack of money dictated that what I wanted done had to wait and so it was. But oh seeing that list of crossed off items sure made it seem like we were accomplishing things. So good luck .
