Hi Friends, I thought you might find this information interesting. If like us you grow your own fruit and veg, eat only in season from locally grown and also grow/eat your own home produced meat then you will probably not be too concerned about this. I say not too concerned because as far as your own health goes you will be feeling fairly comfortable about what you’re consuming. Those of you who buy your fruit, veg and or meat will possibly have cause for concern. I understand that no matter what country we live in or where we are from we all need to make a living however in today’s environment and with the knowledge we have available to us now, I do not understand why we persist in allowing practices that ultimately poison us causing ill health or worse.
I was sent an email by a friend who lives in NZ and this email was about an ACA program that aired recently in which they reported the current practices of food companies selling food raised in China and similar countries that do not practice the same strict health and food safety practices that we are required to do in our countries. This program was also about how as a result of the large food companies trying to save a buck by going off shore to purchase goods made/produced in these countries they are putting our own farmers and agriculturists out of business. In the process they are also sneaking foods under the counter so to speak by indicating that the food is made in Australia (or in my friends case New Zealand or one of the other considered safe countries) when in fact it wasn’t instead it was grown or made mostly in China, Vietnam, Thailand etc and finished off in Australia or New Zealand. One of the items suggested in the ACA program was fish which was stated on the packet to be a product of Canada but in fact the fish was from China and is only processed in Canada (this being the addition of breadcrumbs to the fish).
Do you know what foods you’re consuming and where they actually came from? Are you supporting our own agricultural businesses including farmers or are you letting your short arms and long pockets do the talking? By this if you haven’t heard this old saying before, I mean are you discounting the possible health outcomes for yourselves and your families and not supporting our own food industries in favour of buying the cheapest item?
If you buy the Coles or Woolworths Home brands there is a high chance that it is a product of China, Vietnam, Hong Kong (which is now China), Philippines, Thailand. Do you know how to tell where it is really from? Well it isn’t from the label where it says – product of, it can be found simply by looking at the barcode where by law they have to indicate the country of origin. Do you know your barcodes is going to be my next question?
Well here is a list as passed on to me of the various countries barcodes. I hope you find them enlightening. From now on I shall be paying closer attention to barcodes myself, certainly I’ll be looking at the barcodes now to see if they match up with what the product label is telling me because the downright sneaky ways being used to hoodwink the public and make even larger profits for I still have no idea who in the end? is immoral. Birds Eye and McCain’s are two of the companies now buying vegetables from China and labelling them under their own name.
Please Remember.......the Australian barcode prefix is 93
PLEASE NOTE - if you love Australian produce and the thought of keeping jobs here, AND you like to eat healthy foods and buy quality products, then please read on. Please also note the Australian barcode prefix is 93.
DANGEROUS IMPORTED FOODS
There are no food inspection regulations of foods grown or processed in China , Vietnam , Hong Kong or Thailand .
Other world countries are scared of China making 'black hearted goods’, but can you differentiate which one is made in Australia , the USA , Philippines , Taiwan or China ? For your Information ... the first 3 digits of the barcode is the country code where-in the product was made.
Example: all barcodes that start with 690; 691 through to 695 are all MADE IN CHINA.
4 71 is Made inTaiwan .
This is our right to know, but our governments and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE OURSELVES.
Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products 'made in china', so they don't show from which country it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode.
Remember, if the first 3 digits are 690 through to 695, then it is Made in China . Don't forget, Hong Kong is now China , too.
00 ~ 13 USA & CANADA
30 ~ 37 FRANCE
40 ~ 44 GERMANY
49 ~ JAPAN
50 ~ UK
57 ~ Denmark
64 ~ Finland
76 ~ Switzerland and Liechtenstein
93 ~ Australia
628 ~ Saudi-Arabian
629 ~ United Arab Emirates
740 ~ 745 - Central America
All 480 Codes are Made in the Philippines...
Remember, there are no food inspection regulations!!! In China, Hong Kong, Vietnam or Thailand in particular, I am not sure about the Arab States though in reality, as personally I don’t think I have ever bought anything from there (that I know of) and include their barcode purely as a note of those countries origins.
It was exposed in the ACA program that MANY companies are using a Hong Kong address to avoid having to state that they are selling a product of China for example because people don’t associate Hong Kong as now being China.
People forget and many of the younger generation may not have taken any notice that Hong Kong reverted back to China last century.
No wonder our own farmers are struggling and no wonder our once thriving market gardeners are disappearing along with all their skills. We are killing ourselves and for some reason no one seems particularly concerned about this. Sure many of us will gripe about this in private and we all have an opinion on this but when it comes down to it, do not stand together and actually do something about it. Instead we all opt for convenience and the power of the mighty dollar.
It is my opinion that we should close our borders and that we should concentrate on being self sufficient as a country. We have the means and the abilities to produce all of our own food to support the country without relying on imports of food. Yes I accept that we need to trade but to me this means we should only be trading commodities that we cannot produce and process ourselves here. Instead we are exporting apples, bananas, oranges and many other foods for example that we can grow here. Why? Is it because for some strange reason it is felt we need to eat these fruits all year round or is it because of something else? We should be eating fresh fruits and vegetables in season although the fact is of it is many of the fruits such as pears, apples oranges can be stored and are stored in the cool rooms for months.
Mind you this goes for our other resources as well (going off topic a little here). I can’t understand why a country as rich in resources as ours allows its industries to close and then move offshore to manufacture products instead of encouraging them in house. Why on earth we sell off our resources and then buy them back in manufactured goods at double or triple the price is beyond me. If we are going to pay so much anyway then we may as well be paying for Australian Made in the first place.
Okay, that is my soap box allocation for this week
